Lifting equipment is utilized in most industries of today's economy. To obtain maximum efficiency and trouble-free operations, it is necessary to constantly monitor the equipment through detailed inspections and certification.

Meerholz Canada complies with the following when conducting crane & hoist inspections

  • Inspection and load test prior to initial use of all new and altered cranes to ensure compliance of all function of hoisting and lowering, trolley travel, bridge travel, limit switches, locking and safety devices. OSHA 1910.179(1)(k)
  • Inspection of cranes not in regular use. A crane which has been idle for a period of 1 month or more, but less then 6 months, shall be given an inspection conforming with requirements of OSHA 1910.179(1)(m)(2). A crane which has been idle for a period over 6 months shall be given an inspection conforming with requirements of OSHA 1910.179()(m)(2)(3).
  • Complete inspection of all lifting equipment of 1 ton and up at intervals of a minimum 12 months, and as often as every
  • month depending upon the activity, severity of service, and environment. OSHA 1910.179(1)(3)

How Our Inspections Are Performed

Protect your employees, your production line and your investment; make sure to get thorough inspections done on all of your lifting equipment.

We do not:

  • Walk around your shop performing operational tests on your overhead crane system and then give you a report stating that your crane has been properly inspected

WHAT WE DO:

  • Inspect the wire rope and end connections for any signs of kinking, crushing, cutting, bird-caging, corrosion, reduced diameter or any other unusual wear. Check for proper reeving and lubrication.
  • Visually inspect runway rails or beams for general conditions and properly installed safety equipment, end stops, rail bolts/clips, anti-collision devices, etc.
  • Inspect the load block and hook for wear, bending, twisting, cracks, grooves, and throat opening.
  • Check load brake for proper operation.
  • Inspect the external parts of the hoist, trolley, framework, catwalk, handrails, etc., for broken parts, misalignment, broken welds, excessive wear, or any unusual conditions.
  • Inspect motor brake for proper operation and air gap adjustment
  • Open control boxes and check all contactors, relays, timers and other electrical components, for wear, proper operation, loose/broken connections, etc...
  • Inspect main power system for collector shoe condition, festoon condition, etc., for signs of arcing or wear.
  • Inspect safety devices, i.e. limit switches, etc., for proper operation.
  • Inspect all oil/lube reservoir levels and check for leakage.
  • Inspect motors, couplings and wiring for wear, deterioration and proper operation
  • Visual inspection of gearboxes.
  • Check entire unit for proper control operation and pendant labeling
  • Inspect the sheaves, drums, wheels and bearings for general condition and lubrication.
